Hillsborough County Citizen Corps Council       Tampa, Florida

Members: Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, has identified five (5) programs within the Citizen Corps campaign including Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), Medical Reserve Corps Program (MRC), Fire Corps and USA on Watch – Neighborhood Watch. Hillsborough County’s Citizen Corps Council also embraces community organizations which provide assistance outside the realm of these partner agencies.

 

Mission: The Council encourages all citizens to participate in making communities safer by providing  the tools and training needed to respond to threats of all kinds. To accomplish this, the Council has implemented three key programs:

 

· Public Awareness – Research and identify media and community opportunities to expand public awareness of the Council and its training opportunities and promoting the message of “personal and community preparedness”.

 

· Training and Education – Identify training materials and trainers that will enhance the value and skill sets of Council members as well as respective partner and affiliate members.

 

· Recruitment – Identify additional partner, affiliate and other organizations with volunteer resources that are familiar with the community and to engage them in the Council and its preparedness planning and training activities.
